Olivia Viessmann

Principal Machine Learning Scientist

Olivia Viessmann leads technical explorations of next generation ML methods to create the computational platforms for Flagship’s new companies. She and the team pressure test novel ML methods for their ability to tackle big problems in biology, chemistry and beyond. From algorithmic implementation and large-scale training to validation, her goal is to build the best models for Flagship’s ecosystem.

Prior to joining Flagship, Olivia was a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital and served as an editor for Elsevier’s Data in Brief. She received her Ph.D. from Oxford University as a Marie-Curie Fellow of the European Union. She holds an M.Sc. in Physics from Imperial College London and a B.Sc. in Physics from Heidelberg University in Germany.

Olivia holds patents for ML methods, co-authored dozens of peer-reviewed articles and conference papers. She enjoys engaging with the broader machine learning community and served as workshop chair and reviewer for ICML, ICLR and NeurIPS.
